Think That Is The Plan??

Here is the link. Only ten minutes long on Unity radio.

We have mentioned many time here that we would like to see Denis Leary as a spokesman with the message being "Why We Don't Suck". O'kay, maybe you do not like it, but it is a clear message.

$300,000 Marketing Campaign: What Is The Plan?

After listening to the interview, the marketing campaign was kicked off last month at a Metro-West Chamber Breakfast and "the message was put out....We are now putting a full court press on promoting the airport".

Looks like we are getting away from the hashtag #WhyIFlyORH and towards #FlyWorcester emphasizing the destinations that can be reached from Worcester Airport. To be clear, we think that is the message, but are not entirely sure??

This is a great idea, which we have mentioned here many times, but think #FlyORH would be better. You can also make fun of how we are called ORH, that is often brought up to market Worcester airport.

How exactly are going to implement this $300,000 full court press to #FlyWorcester? We are again not sure??? We do know, however, that the efforts of this full court press will not happen in Worcester.

As evidenced by the fact the "message" was announced at a Metro-West Chamber of Commerce breakfast and after listening to this interview, evidently the belief is that people in Worcester and surrounding communities already know about all the possibilities from Worcester Airport. Why spend marketing here?

Might make sense if that was true, but the problem is nothing could be further from the truth. Ask anyone you see today right here in Worcester this Easter Sunday, if they know about all the flights and possibilities at #FlyORH?

New marketing campaign continues to miss the mark.

If I see another mention of Denis Leary or the A320 I'm going to hang myself. Air travel is a serious business. Most people are using it for business meetings or a family vacation. Having a has been actor/comedian make light of the airport confuses me. You guys have great suggestions as far as places and airlines you want at ORH. The problem is none of these airlines want to come here. Maybe it's the shaky load factors on the JFK route or the scale back of the AA service after a short time. Direct FL service to Florida has always worked well at ORH. Based on that I don't see the JB service as a great pinnacle success. Mr. Davis should be reassigned to a job he is more qualified for, like loading the baggage onto the planes.

Common Sense the mention of Denis Leary in this post was simply an example of a marketing plan and that we are not even sure what the plan is right now for Worcester Airport. You tell me do you understand exactly what the message is of this marketing campaign?

So far, it looks like they're going the route of print advertising. They had that ad in the T&G (confusing and inadequate at best). I also saw an ad in the Community Advocate which distributes to five towns East of Worcester. They also attended an expo in the Metro-West area. Maybe they'll also go the route of billboard and radio ads. It's nice to see them at least make an effort, but $300,000 doesn't get you too far these days. Maybe they should focus on marketing just the JFK flight by letting the public know about all the destinations available from that hub. I'm still peeved that the Chamber, business community and the City aren't doing more to promote these flights. There’re basically writing a $100 million check for the stadium, so why not through some money for the airport? Maybe the team can offer a free banner or sign inside the ballpark

The marketing plan at ORH is a complete and utter joke, practically non-existent. Its frustrating listening to strong radio ads for Providence which, by the way, has been so far the only benefactor of capacity problems at Logan. People asking when Worcester will see relief from Logan need not look further than PVD to see it's happening right now. Worcester just isn't seeing any of it.

This might sound crazy, but I might consider telling Delta to take a hike if they don"t want to change the hub to ATL. I also could care less about the struggling PHI flight. You can get to anywhere on the planet from JFK. These other flights to DET and PHI are redundant. Then the goal would be to work to 4-5 daily JB flights to JFK. By focusing on this I don't see why the load factors can't be 80-90%. Then you can bring in one or two of these discount carriers offering daily or seasonal direct flights to other FL cities.

Agreed common sense. One airline doing three a day to one city would be exponentially better than three airlines once a day. Pointless.

Don't be fooled into thinking that Massport doesn’t read or care about this blog. I suggested last month that they should run an ad in the Community Advocate newspaper. It's distributed to five towns east of Worcester, and running and ad is very cheap. I was pleased to see a half page ad for the airport in last week’s edition. Maybe they’re finally getting some "Common Sense."
