Leisure Travelers Is Our Target

As we have posted last month , we should market Worcester as the airport to Florida.

Don't think this is a good idea? Check out this post from from Skift titled "Why Airlines Can’t Get Enough of the Sunshine State".

Here are some highlights:

*** The state’s 18 major airports handled 87 million passengers.

Allegiant: 58% of their seats are Florida
JetBlue: 45% "
Frontier: 35% "
American; 20% "
SouthWest: 17% "
Delta: 12% "
United: 7% "

** Florida’s importance to the U.S. airline sector is no accident. Carriers are growing there because the state’s tourism, population and economy keep growing.

Before anyone says we should market something else, we only have $300,000. "Fish where the fish are!!!"

Right now we offer direct flights to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale and any other destination through our flights from JetBlue to JFK and American to Philadelphia.

More to follow!!

I guess you have more patience than I do. I don't see any reason to think these carriers are interested in expanding their footprint at ORH or even introducing new service here. Why take a chance in a shaky market when those assets could be used at existing markets with similar load factors? The fact that none of the discount carriers, that offer flights to other FL destinations, aren't interested in ORH troubles me. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Davis or his team of managers didn’t even pickup to phone to call them. If there are new carriers interested in staring service here, they're probably in a holding pattern observing how the AA flights and JB JFK flights are doing. Based on that I wouldn't put up any Frontier or Allegiant signs in the terminal. Also, I'm going to puke if I hear how Massport invested $100 million to upgrade our airport. They received substantial federal grants to defray the costs of the projects. I'm guessing in the $15 to $20 million-dollar range. Let's hope the new $300,000 ad campaign can turn things around. If they use the money on ineffective marking (like they've done in the past) then shame on them.
