4 More Observations To Follow

In October of 2016, Rectrix announced at a Chamber event, they would have a daily flight to Baltimore then to Sarasota daily, out of Worcester Airport. Needless to say we were very excited. The flight would begin within one year (October of 2017), if not sooner.

Telegram Column on this new flight.

At that time, we only had daily flights to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale with JetBlue and had no way to get to Batimore/DC or Sarasota. Today we have one flight to JetBlue's hub at JFK, which we expect may become two soon.

In October, we will have two flights to American' hub in Philadelphia. Followed by Delta after the 1st of the year to their hub in Detroit, although we hope it to be Detroit. This has not been announced.

If Rectrix can not get any people to fly to the Cape without competition now, how do you expect them to fill a this proposed fllght against these carriers?

Alot has changed since October of 2016, a "pilot shortage" is just an convenient excuse. Starting this flight would simply be a bad business decision for Rectrix to do right now. This flight will never ever happen.

So...... what's your point?

Doug, the point is we call them as we see them. This flight will never happen.

Bill, I invited you to meet with me, our VP of Operations and my FAA required employees and you can ask as many questions as you like. Instead you said you will ask five questions for five days, and apparently this is one of them. My response is as follows: I will not answer your questions as you “assume and speculate” in your headlines. Instead, meet with me, and my FAA required employees and we will answer as many questions as you like. But no, you won’t do that! Why not? Allow me to speculate why. Because – maybe you will not like the answers; which by the way will be the TRUTH! So either you don’t want the truth or you simply enjoy bashing. ORH airport is fantastic, Rectrix is growing immensely there and we have 37 employees just in ORH alone. It is those employees who matter the most to me. Sincerely, Richard Cawley CEO RECTRIX COMMERCIAL AVIATION SERVICES INC.

Mr Cawley: We appreciate the offer and want only the best for Rectrix and Worcester Airport. Can you just tell us when we might then expect to see this first flight to Baltmore then to Sarasota? Thanks Bill

Bill, Thanks a lot for sharing our positive view for ORH. Like I said; all you have to do is meet with me and my FAA required employees and you will obtain all the answers. Thanks again.

Bill, this is a prime example of where your negativity is causing far more harm than good. Telling your followers "this will never happen" is rude, demoralizing and fully undermines what you say you stand for. Btw, I for one would welcome this flight to BWI (Baltimore). BWI is a major hub for Southwest with connections to as many places as PHL and JFK. Why on Earth are you making an enemy of Rectix? How can you say you support the effort and then crap all over everything they try to do without as much as speaking with them? I wouldn't blame Rectrix for viewing you as a nuisance and obstructionist. Figure out what side you are on, I'm appauled by your constand badgering of Rectix and criticism of the good things they try to do. I agree the Cape Cod flights were too expensive, you could have simply said so without sounding like a typical negative Worcester troll.

So Rectrix misleads Massport and the citizens of Worcester and their mad because you point out their lies. Doesn't that sound messed up? They price the tickets on their new Cape Cod flight so high that it costs less to fly from Boston to LA than Worcester to Hyannis. Making false promises actually lowers people's confidence in our airport and does harm to its future growth.

Tim: Asking questions makes us negative? Right now we personally do see this flight ever happening. Hope we are wrong. When is the expected timing of this first flight?

commented on 2018-06-14 13:26:12

To Common Sense. First, find me a plane ticket to LA for $150 please, I'll take two of them anytime! Exaggerating does nothing to support your point. Calling Retrix a liar because their plans did not come to fruition as planned is let's just say unkind. I'm sure you know how complicated it is to start up a brand new commercial airline from scratch. It's a pain to get a new drivers license, imagine how it is to pass all the hurdles of the countless government agencies, not to mention the upfront costs associated with getting all the needed permits and so forth. I'm disappointed this didn't happen as stated once, in one single article, and I'm hopeful it still will. They don't need Bill or you wishing them failure before they even get off the proverbial ground. I love Worcester, but the worst part of it by far are all the negative people who have never accomplished a thing for themselves gloating and celebrating everytime someone who actually tries fails.

commented on 2018-06-14 13:30:28

Tim How are we wishing for failure when we are simply asking the status of this flight?? When we questioned American about their initial announcement, were we hoping they would fail, or were we hoping they woud make changes to succeed??

The fact that where asking these questions almost two years after you announced the flight tells me Retrix has no clue about what their doing. Why did they drastically cut the fares from Worcester to Cape Cod if the original fares were competitive. Retrix needs to stick to fueling planes and maintaining them (there doing a lousy job at that) rather than getting into areas they have no clue about. Very poor leadership at the top. Maybe one of their managers can go back to school and get an MBA.

Tim. I started an investment consultant firm with $1500 in the bank and turned it into a company managing over $300 million. I don't need some hack like you telling me I have no business sense. I hope Retrix is able to pull this off. Personally, I won't fly in these small planes. I took one from Harrisburg to Boston once and I was getting bounced around so much I vomited five times.

Been monitoring this blog for a while and feel compelled to jump in here...local resident involved in aviation for years now..I can see both sides here. Bill I know youve had this blog for years now and want whats only best for the airport and can see how your comments come off somewhat aggressive. Tim I can understand you encouraging his positive stance regardless of what issues lie up on the hill. You're both neither right nor wrong. As for Mr. Cawley and whatever an "FAA required employee" is the only real thing that bothers me is the comments about the pilot shortage holding back the flight after over a year of "waiting for FAA approval." Elite Airways always starts new routes on very short notice including New Bedford this year on about 2 months, and I'm not even going into details on the shortage. If you can't staff one plane and one flight thats a reflection of your company not the shortage. My flying buddy used to work for Rectrix in Bedford and had nothing but horror stories. Turnover rate is unbelievable, management asks for ridiculous things like posting fake reviews on websites and it is well known across the airport the line crew has to clean up the bathrooms for whatever reason. Imagine being a rich guy and finding out the guy who just offloaded your bags just cleaned the toilets - gross!!

Don’t forget that Rectrix planned on using 30 seats presumably to operate as a Part 135 carrier. Part 121 requires your ATP which is where the 1500 hours rule comes from. 135 you could hire at 250 if you really wanted to as long as they have their commercial and get type rated. There’s a lot of reasons not to fly this route for sure but the pilot shortage is not one of them.

Common Sense. I will not return your personal insults in kind. You do not know me and all I know about you is what you post. When you resort to name calling, it is you who does not look polished, professional, polite or respectful. My comment about trolls was not targeted toward anyone specifically, only those who vomit all over everything Worcester in general. Notice, however, that Bill did not find any need to brag about his success because he knows he's a successful business leader. For that matter, neither do i nor is it relevant to any discussion here. You do seem to be raising the bar on negativity here quite well with your personal insults toward me and Rectrix. We are lucky to have them and regardless your opinion you have no basis for saying they do not know what they are doing.
