Patriots Name TF Green As Their Official Airport
Recently we read this quote from our Airport Director, “What we’re looking for is to increase the frequency with existing airlines and bring in more airlines”, when being interviewed by Jeff Saperstone from NBC10 Boston. Link to the tweet .
Sounds great!! Over the past few years we have been recommended ultra discount airlines:
3) Sun Country
None of these are flying out of Worcester, but all of these have decided to start flying out of Providence. In fact two of them, Frontier and Allegiant, are flying out of Portsmouth NH, not Worcester.
Internationally TF Green added Air Canada to Toronto, while domestically JetBlue has added West Palm Beach out of Providence. There have been many more services added out of TF Green.
Our point is that it is one thing to say it, while it is another thing to actually do it. There were 4.3 million passengers enplaned and deplaned at T.F. Green Airport in 2018, a 9.2 percent increase from 2017’s 3.9 million passengers. Bottome line the increase in passengers at TF Green of over 400,000laong in 2018 is twice the total number passenger count in Worcester.
How do they do it? Dare we say marketing has helped them!! How many time have you seen a billboard in Central Mass or heard a radio ad about TF Green? How much PR does Providence get for the Patriots. How awesome would have been to have gotten the Patriots to have picked Worcester, not Providence, as their official airport .
Not only waive landing fees, like TF GReen, but give the $300,000 of marketing monies???
Providence is truly providing relief to Logan.
Worcester is not!

The real reason JetBlue is even flying from Worcester is to appease massport so they can get more in BOS. It's to out of the way and just not convenient. Most people would rather take the commuter it drive an hour south to Providence than out to Worcester.

I think you guys are comparing apples to oranges. Manchester, TF Green, Bradley and Burlington are really the only major airports in their respective states. They are really the only game in town. ORH on the other hand has four major airports within a one hour's drive. This will always haunt ORH, limiting its growth. My thought is that some of these airlines see ORH as redundant and choose to fly out of airports with the best chance of success and profitability. I still see ORH as a niche airport that will only cater to the leisure FL crowd. I think the poor load factors on the JFK and PHI flightssomewhat proves my point. Based on that, I think the Delta flight to DET will also have mediocre load factors. I think we all might have to accept that ORH will have a very limited role in air travel in the New England airport system.

Not a cent to support air travel from Worcester. We've already got more airports within 75 minutes of us than just about any place in the country. This is just bogus subsidy of our most affluent people. Shut Worcester Airport down and replace it with a wind farm.

I liked the idea of being Central Massachusetts airport to Florida and other vacation destinations. Promote that and include our options through the hubs that can get you anywhere for your next trip.
