Why We Are Not Cheerleaders
At FlyORH we believe Worcester Airport can be a great airport, but that does not mean we will blindly cheer everything. When we have criticisms, we do it to hopefuly see changes that will ensure the success of Worcester Airport.
For months we have warned that the American flight to Philadelphia and the JetBlue flight to JFK are hovering around 50% loads. Flights simply do not last at these levels, since no airline can not make money with half empty flights.
For American we had 3 major recommendations:
1) Pilots to be be CAT II certified (out of our control) ASAP
2) Planes need to be able to handle CAT III (Delta planes will be and JetBlue are able to utilize our CAT III)
3) Marketing needs to be increased by both Massport and American
Looking forward in their schedule starting June 6th, there will only be one flight per day Thursday-Friday-Sunday-Monday. This is not good. We go from 2 flights per day (14 per week) to 4 per week....
We have sent an e-mail to Andy Davis to verify. We will post more on this later today, if he answers us ????

It’s astounding really the minimalistic effort that is put into pretty bare bones service already. Can’t even fill 100 seats to philly - not good.

Relax, the sky is not falling. You fail to mention this is only for June. Their full schedule is back in July. This could mean they have a pilot shortage because rectrix is stealing them four their Baltimore flight or AA is puliing planes toretrofit them with cat3.

There are two problems: 1. I can fly to those locations FAR cheaper from Boston (1/3 the price to Philly). 2. ORH cancels flights more often, or the connecting flight to JFK/Philly is delayed and you’re stuck because you missed the ONE flight back to ORH. Just happened to me twice on vacation.

I checked Expedia for June and July and Chicken Little is Correct about the schedule. In July they will be back to a full schedule. So the sky is not falling after all.

Most local people here in North Central Mass don't even know American is running out of Worcester.

Even if it’s just for June this is not a common trend at any other airport in Americans system. There is an explicit reason. The loads have been under 50% since the start and a conscious decision was made to scale back in June. By the way, we won’t ever see CAT III planes on this route. Apparently the deal at Logan was with Piedmont and not American so until Piedmont flies anything other than Embraer 145s nothing is changing. This decision has nothing to do with the flight that was never going to happen from the start with Rectrix either. I’m not sure why I even bothered acknowledging that ridiculous theory. This decision was made based on demand plain and simple just like all other business decisions.
