At a time when many other airlines are cutting flights, JetBlue Airways Corp. said its traffic rose in January as it grew its capacity.

While the news is certainly overshadowed by the announced merger between American Airlines and USAirways, New York-based JetBlue said traffic rose 11.2 percent in January from a year ago as its capacity increased 9.9 percent.

Load factor, which measures a flight’s fullness, was 81.7 percent, an increase from 80.7 percent in January 2012
