Amazon is building their own airlines, Prime, to fly their own packages and cut out FedEx/Ups. The online retailer will open its own cargo air hub in Northern Kentucky, where it plans to employ 2,000 people, it announced today.   The Amazon facility will be the eventual home to 40 Amazon Prime Air planes the company is leasing to transport pa [...]

Rockford Airport and cargo

Many years ago we made the analogy between major airports and their secondary airports: Boston and Worcester Pittsburgh and Latrobe (Arnold Palmer) NYC and Stewart Chicago and Rockford In 2016, they flew 225,890 with two carriers Allegiant and Apple Vacations.    But here is the thing we found most interesting in their recent press release [...]

Spirit starts next month out of Hartf...

Spirit is on very aggressive airline, who has put the “no thrills” into “no thrills” airline.   They are extremely aggressive and will be starting next month out of Harford. Spirit’s first flights from Hartford will begin April 27 when it launches daily flights to Orlando and four-times-a-week service to Myrtle Beach. [...]

Allegiant and St Pete, no way ORH sho...

Check out all the destinations that Allegiant flies from to St Pete!!!   Explain to me how Worcester is not on their flight map???  Go to the interactive map and click on St Pete. Considering we already have JetBlue bringing people to Worcester Airport to fly to the two Atlantic Coast destinations (Orlando and Fort Lauderdale), you would thi [...]

Allegiant flies all these destinations out of Portsmouth: Sanford  (Orlando) Fort Lauderdale Myrtle Beach Punta Gorda  (Fort Myers) St Pete   (Tampa) If we could get Allegiant to come to ORH, Myrtle Beach , Punta Gorda and St Pete’s would be great compliments to existing JetBlue daily to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale.   Based on Portsmo [...]

Elite Airways, one to watch

Over the past ten years, we have seen a lot of airlines come and go including Direct Air.   Elite has been flying over commercial flight over a  year and are based in Portland, Maine., targeting secondary cities like Worcester (ORH).   They remind me of Allegiant, who did the same thing based out of Las Vegas starting on the West [...]

JetBlue to start JFK daily in 2018

As it stands right now, CAT III should be up and running by December of 2017, followed by a daily flight to JFK in the morning with a return flight at night.   This is a great development for Worcester Airport (ORH), since JFK is the HUB for JetBlue, from which you can connect to most of their destinations with a direct flight.   CAT II [...]

ORH and Freight

The JFK announcement was huge, since it will allow us to connect direct to pretty much every destination JetBlue flies to connecting through JFK in NYC.   Click on JFK on the interactive route map to see the exact ones.  As I mentioned earlier in the week, I am a little confused by the timing of an announcement now for a route that will start [...]

Worcester Airport: Wait for it

For ten years on a prior blog, I urged the City of Worcester to privatize the airport through the  RFP (Request for Proposal) process.  Either outright sell the airport, like Newburgh New York did when they sold it to National Express, or long-term lease ORH, not different then Wachusett Mountain.     Although an RFP was never done, the City [...]
